Barryville

Nestled on the New York and Pennsylvania border, Barryville is just a two-hour drive from New York City in the Delaware Water Gap area. It’s a really small town, but with all the essentials for a great weekend getaway—or a very enjoyable quality of life—including a small gourmet grocery, farmers market, several antique shops and one of the best dive bars ever. On many days, one can spot bald eagles in the stands of trees that line the river’s banks. There are waterfalls and rock formations, and the river is spanned by the Roebling Aqueduct, believed to be the oldest suspension bridge in America. Built by John Roebling, designer of the Brooklyn Bridge, it carried the D&H Canal across the river. The bridge is a National Historic Landmark. For outdoorsy adventurers, there are riverside hikes, tubing, white water rafting,  kayaks and canoeing—as well as paintball and ziplining! Skiing at Big Bear at Masthope is only a few minutes away. Barryville is also 15 minutes from Bethel, the site of Woodstock and the current bucolic site of the Bethel Woods Center for the Arts
