Callicoon is a town in Sullivan County, about two hours northwest of New York City. Surrounded by mountains, with the Delaware River at its feet, the town draws people to weekend homes,” to a place so peaceful that the loudest noise is the hum of a refrigerator,” as the New York Times once reported. The original spelling of the name was Collikoon—the word for "turkey" in both Dutch and Choctaw. Callicoon hosts one of the best weekly farmers’ markets in Sullivan County, and the Catskills Provisions Tasting Room on Upper Main Street is a most tempting place to nosh on delicious food prepared using ingredients from local farms, including cheese boards and cocktails. Callicoon offers many water sport activities as well as fishing, eagle watching, flea markets, antiquing, art galleries, hiking, and golf.
