Claverack

With more than 20 sites on the National Register of Historic Places, the scenic Columbia County town of Claverack, NY, is known for its great history. The first known mastodon tooth found in the world was discovered in town in 1705; Aaron Burr and Alexander Hamilton tried cases in the local courthouse; and former US President Martin Van Buren attended school here at the now-closed Washington Seminary. Originally 60,000 acres, the town of Claverack was formed in 1778. It’s just down the road from Hudson, home to galleries, restaurants and medical facilities.
