Glen Spey

Glen Spey is a hamlet in Sullivan County. The town's name is in reference to the spring-filled ravines, or glens, that characterize the Delaware River tributaries in the area. Beginning in 1868, stone from the area’s large bluestone quarries left the town via the D & H Canal and the Erie Railroad to become the curbs and sidewalks of New York City. There are waterfalls and many natural springs in Glen Spey. The Kadampa Meditation Center New York and World Peace Temple is located on 82 peaceful wooded acres and offers a dessert café and gift shop. The reputedly haunted Burn Brae Mansion sits on over 20 wooded acres at the foot of the Catskill Mountains. The grounds are lush with streams, open fields and walking trails. The mansion has been the subject of numerous paranormal investigations. Other attractions include the Hickock Brook Multiple Use Area for hiking and camping and Stairway Lake. Glen Spey is about a 2-hour drive from NYC, and right up the road from the Delaware River with its many options for outdoor activities.
