Copake

Copake, NY, is a town on the eastern border of Columbia County, adjacent to Taconic State Park and the Berkshires. Only 16 miles from the Massachusetts tourist destination of Great Barrington and less than 10 miles from the Catamount Ski Area in neighboring Hillsdale, NY, Copake is known for its swimming, hiking, biking and water skiing. The town, formed in 1824, is easily accessible from New York City via the Taconic State Parkway and NYS Route 22. Once home to the iron-mining and smelting industries, today it’s a popular destination for second-home owners and seasonal renters from New York City. In Taconic State Park, adjacent to Copake Falls, is the “Ore Pit,” a former iron mine that is now a 40-foot-deep swimming hole popular with tourists and locals alike.
