Red Hook

The town of Red Hook, NY, is located in Dutchess County, comprised of the villages of Red Hook and Tivoli and the Hudson River Historic District hamlets of Barrytown and Annandale-on-Hudson, home to Bard College. Settled in the late 1700s and originally part of the town of Rhinebeck, Red Hook held its first documented town meeting in 1813. Today, the ‘college town’ is known for its pick-your-own-farms, fine restaurants, nightlife and antique shops, as well as the Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome, Poet’s Walk Park, with its views of the Hudson River, and the scenic Tivoli Bays National Estuarine Research Reserve. One of the town’s other most well-known attributes is its series of ‘River Places,’ which extends the length of Red Hook’s western edge with 12 historic estates. Through the years, the town has been home to many notable people, including Hannah Arendt, Dorothy Day, Giancarlo Esposito, and Gore Vidal.
